I’m pretty sure this was taught to me in my first business class (the difference between a need and a want). A need is something that is vital to your survival of life where as a want is something more on the lines of “oooohh that’s pretty, I like that.” I’m also pretty sure what I learned in business class is completely and totally applying to my life and many others too.
I think a lot of people confuse needing someone compared to wanting someone. You, myself, or anyone else for that matter doesn’t need anyone in their life to make them successful, bring them happiness, or help them with their problems. And if you feel that you need someone to do all those things for you then right now, yes literally right now, I want you to get that idea, thought, or theory out of your head! That’s crazy talk. You are the only one who can bring yourself to success, make yourself happy, and solve your own problems. It’s important to be independent and be able to do things for yourself because what if one day that person is no longer in your life? For whatever reason they are just gone? Think about that.
Wanting someone is completely different. Like I said, nobody needs someone to make them successful, bring them happiness, or solve their problems. But a lot of people want someone to share all the ups and downs with. Someone to share all the happiness and sadness with, someone to turn to in the middle of the night and snuggle up your noses really close just to be sure they’re still there, someone to annoy you when it’s the last thing you need, tickle you when you’re in a playful mood, and rub your tummy when you have those darn-awful cramps. You don’t need someone to give you a hug after a long day to reassure you it’s okay but you want someone to. Everyone can easily do all of those things alone; snuggle up with their stuffed animal named Pablo, place a heating pad on your tummy for those aches and pains, and take a huge deep breath after a long day..all by yourself.
You don’t need that someone in your life but you want them terribly. You know what I’d say? Tough luck kid, deal with it but don’t you dare ever give up on something you can’t go a day without thinking about.
That’s the difference between a need and a want. Nothing is needed except food, water, clothes, and shelter. The stuff that is wanted? Well I guess that’s a whole other story.
